Immediately following the Civil War of 1865, a body of worshipers came together for the purpose of organizing the First Colored Baptist Church of Merrifield, now known as The First Baptist Church of Merrifield.
The FBCM is a spiritually based bible teaching congregation. We have ministries that address the needs of all, at home and abroad. "The greatest love is shown when a person lays down his or her life for their friends." (John 15:13).
The Vision is of a Church who Preaches/Teaches: a Church who will proclaim the Gospel to all the world. Mark 16:15 says, "And He said unto them, go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature."
These Are Statements of Belief by the Members of FBCM:
We believe that the word of God is without error or contradiction; that it is inspired by God; that it provides the only true way for spiritual growth; and that its truth will be preserved throughout all generations (Psalm 33:11, 119:160; Isaiah 40:8; 1 Peter 2:2).
The First Baptist Church of Merrifield preaches and teaches the Word of God as the only guideline for wholesome living. We covenant to pray for one another, the community, the nation, and all people of the world.
